To me, the Nashville New Media community is like a shiny new toy. Let me explain my perspective. For most of my career I have worked with remote clients and relationships. I’m actually very good in person and love to network and engage in social business activities but I’ve usually considered it narrow to only focus on your local community for business so I haven’t put much energy in to it. I got my toe wet last year with it when I started working a little bit locally and helped sponsor the first BarCamp in Nashville. I was only pleased so-so with the results I got last year as a sponsor of BarCamp and with the economy the way it is we’ve buckled down on our spending so we didn’t sponsor this year. However, I wish I had. This year was very engaging, a lot more classy and I felt it was better geared toward networking. Instead of being in a dark, very hot and short of space bar, as it was last year, it was at the Sommet Center in Nashville. There was food, it was well lit, there were 3 presentation rooms, lots of sponsor booths, plenty of area to sit and there was still alcohol. It was great. So, not only did they have informative sessions and panels all day they had an open bar at the Hard Rock Cafe after wards for about an hour and a half. Then soon after that there were two options that had it lasting late in to the night for the hardcore people. There was a BarCamp bar crawl which was well organized and had drink specials at most bars we went and some of the group went to a hockey game for the Nashville Predators. We shared drinks, knowledge and laughs with some of the brightest in New Media in Nashville.
So, I am happy with my new toy "The Interconnected Nashville New Media Community" and I believe we should all share this magnificent toy that has found it’s new home in Nashville for years to come. The parts to this toy have been here for a long time but not until recently did I feel I was able to see the parts come together. We will all be wiser to develop this for Nashville and our clients will share the wealth of a tightly woven community focused on developing the best solutions to the most difficult problems in New Media. So, let’s keep up the momentum Nashville.

I agree…it made me proud that Nashville seems so up on all this stuff.
